WiFi hotspot Tip – Setup before you need it

Estimated reading time: 1 min

Here’s a tip for everyone (do it now, not when you need it!):

  1. Turn on your phone’s WiFi hotspot, get in the car and use the WiFi menu to connect the car to the phone.
  2. Turn off your phone’s WiFi hotspot.
  3. Done!

Now your car “knows” your phone. If you ever find yourself in a situation where the car doesn’t connect to the internet and you can’t connect to it via the app to unlock/summon etc. As long as your phone has signal you can just turn on the hotspot. After a few minutes the car will find it and connect. This restores the car’s connectivity and you can try again.

Remember: But don’t forget to switch it off or accidentally leave it on as the Model S (especially with nice satellite maps) uses a lot of data.
